
Types of Warts
Warts vary depending on their location, appearance, and the type of HPV causing them. The main types include:
- Common warts
- Typically appear on fingers, the backs of hands, and knees.
- Have a rough surface and are grayish or flesh-colored.
- Often develop in areas prone to minor injuries.
- Plantar warts
- Found on the soles of the feet.
- Appear flat due to pressure from walking.
- Can be painful and resemble calluses due to thickened skin around them.
- Flat warts
- Common on the face, neck, hands, or knees.
- Small, smooth, and flat-topped.
- Usually flesh-colored or light brown, and often occur in clusters.
- Filiform warts
- Grow around the eyes, mouth, nose, or neck.
- Long and narrow, resembling threads.
- Grow quickly and may cause irritation.
- Genital warts
- Appear on the genital area, around the anus, or inside the mouth.
- Soft with an irregular surface, often resembling cauliflower.
- Primarily transmitted through sexual contact and may cause itching or discomfort.
- Subungual and periungual warts
- Located under or around fingernails and toenails.
- Can be painful and affect nail growth.
- Often challenging to treat due to their location.
