Conchotomy:
Conchotomy is a surgical operation in which a partial or complete removal of the tissue of the nasal turbinates (conchae) is performed to expand the nasal passages and improve breathing. This method is used when there is chronic nasal congestion due to hypertrophy (overgrowth) of the nasal turbinates.
Indications for Conchotomy:
- Chronic rhinitis unresponsive to medication.
- Allergic rhinitis leading to constant swelling and nasal congestion.
- Hypertrophy of nasal turbinates.
- Difficulty breathing through the nose due to narrowed nasal passages.
Conchoplasty:
- Conchoplasty is a surgery aimed at correcting the nasal turbinates, such as reducing their size or repositioning them to restore normal nasal function. This method is used when it is necessary not only to remove swelling or inflammation but also to change the anatomical shape of the turbinates to improve breathing.
Indications for Conchoplasty:
- Chronic nasal congestion caused by anatomical abnormalities of the turbinates.
- Nasal polyps or breathing issues caused by enlarged turbinates.
- Recurrent upper respiratory infections.
