Hysterectomy with/without appendages at the Helios Surgery and Rehabilitation Center

Hysterectomy is a surgical operation to completely remove the uterus. If the operation is accompanied by removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes, the procedure is called hysterectomy with appendages. This is one of the most effective methods of treatment for serious diseases of the reproductive system.

Indications for hysterectomy:

  • Cancer of the uterus or ovaries: The operation is performed for malignant neoplasms of the uterus, ovaries or fallopian tubes.
  • Benign tumors: Large fibroids that are not amenable to treatment by other methods, or when the fibroid causes significant symptoms (bleeding, pain).
  • Uterine prolapse: When the uterus descends or protrudes from the vagina, which causes significant discomfort.
  • Chronic inflammatory diseases: If inflammation of the uterus and its appendages is not amenable to conservative treatment.
  • Risk to the woman's health: If there are medical indications that may threaten the patient's life in subsequent pregnancies or due to other factors.

Types of hysterectomy:

  • Hysterectomy without appendages: Removal of only the uterus, while the ovaries and fallopian tubes remain in place.
  • Hysterectomy with appendages: Removal of the uterus along with the ovaries and fallopian tubes.

Stages of hysterectomy surgery at the Helios Center:

1.Consultation and diagnostics:

  • During the initial consultation with the surgeon, a detailed review and analysis of the results of medical examinations (ultrasound, CT, MRI, hysteroscopy, blood tests) is performed.
  • Indications and contraindications for the operation are discussed, as well as risks and possible treatment options.

2.Preparation for surgery:

  • Before the operation, the patient may be prescribed additional tests and examinations to assess the general state of health.
  • Recommendations for diet and medications that must be discontinued before surgery are described.

3.Surgery:

  • The surgery is performed under general or spinal anesthesia.
  • The access method can be through a traditional incision or laparoscopically, depending on the patient's condition and the surgeon's recommendations.
  • The doctor removes the uterus, and if necessary, the ovaries with fallopian tubes.

4.Rehabilitation:

  • After the surgery, the patient is in the hospital under the supervision of doctors.
  • During the first days after the surgery, painkillers and drugs to prevent infections may be prescribed.
  • An important stage is the restoration of hormonal balance if the ovaries have been removed, which requires correction of hormone therapy.
