Prostatectomy at the "Helуos" Surgery and Rehabilitation Center

Prostatectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the partial or complete removal of the prostate gland. This surgery is most commonly used to treat prostate cancer or benign prostate conditions when other treatment options are ineffective.

When should you consult a doctor?

Prostatectomy may be recommended in the following cases:

  • Early-stage prostate cancer.
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia causing significant urinary problems.
  • Complications related to prostatitis that do not respond to other treatments.
  • Persistent bleeding from the prostate that cannot be controlled with conservative methods.

How does the procedure work?

1.Consultation and Diagnosis — initially, the doctor conducts an examination, including ultrasound, blood tests, and other studies to accurately determine the indications for surgery.

2.Surgery — there are several methods for performing prostatectomy:

  • Radical prostatectomy — complete removal of the prostate, usually used for prostate cancer.
  • Laparoscopic prostatectomy — a less invasive method where several small incisions are made, and special equipment is used to remove the prostate.
  • Robot-assisted prostatectomy — a modern technique using robotic systems for precise removal of the prostate.

The surgery typically lasts from 2 to 4 hours, depending on the method used.

3.Rehabilitation — after the surgery, the patient may stay in the hospital for a few days to a week. Following discharge, there is a recovery period during which the patient is advised to avoid physical exertion, manage the wound, and follow the doctor's instructions.
