Treatment of abdominal endometriosis at the "Helios" surgery and rehabilitation center

Abdominal endometriosis is a form of endometriosis in which tissue similar to the endometrium (the inner lining of the uterus) grows outside the uterus, in the abdominal cavity. This usually occurs on the peritoneum, organs of the gastrointestinal tract, bladder or other organs. This can lead to inflammation, the formation of adhesions, abdominal pain and impaired functions of the affected organs. Abdominal endometriosis is often the cause of painful menstruation, pain during intercourse, and infertility.

How is the consultation and treatment at the Helios Center:

Initial consultation:

  • At the first consultation, the doctor collects the patient's history, analyzes the symptoms, conducts a gynecological examination and asks about the characteristics of the menstrual cycle and other important aspects of health.

Diagnostics:

The following methods are used for an accurate diagnosis:

  • Ultrasound of the pelvic organs - to detect changes, adhesions or other pathologies that may indicate endometriosis.
  • Laparoscopy - one of the main methods of diagnosing and treating endometriosis of the abdominal cavity. This minimally invasive intervention allows the doctor not only to see the lesion, but also to perform the necessary surgical intervention, if necessary.
  • Histological examination of tissues taken during laparoscopy to confirm the diagnosis.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) - for a detailed study of the location of endometriosis foci and their effect on other organs.

Treatment:

  • Medical treatment: Treatment may include hormonal drugs that help stop or slow the growth of endometriosis and reduce pain. This may include oral contraceptives or other hormonal agents.
  • Surgical treatment: Laparoscopy is used not only for diagnosis, but also to remove endometriosis in the abdominal cavity. If necessary, adhesions or other affected tissues are removed.
  • Other treatments: In severe cases of endometriosis, more complex reproductive technologies, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), may be considered.

Rehabilitation:

  • After surgery or other treatment, patients undergo rehabilitation, including follow-up examinations, physical therapy, and other procedures to reduce pain, facilitate the recovery process, and reduce the risk of recurrence.
