A duodenal ulcer is a serious condition that can cause abdominal pain, dyspepsia, and complications such as bleeding or perforation. How is Duodenal Ulcer Treated?

1.Consultation and Diagnosis:

  • Examination by a gastroenterologist to evaluate symptoms and overallb condition.
  • Tests: general blood test, Helicobacter pylori research, stool blood test.
  • Endoscopy (FGDS) to confirm the diagnosis and determine the degree of damage to the duodenal mucosa.
  • Abdominal ultrasound to assess potential complications and the condition of other organs.

2.Medication Treatment:

Medication treatment for duodenal ulcers at our center includes several key groups of drugs that help reduce stomach acidity, eradicate Helicobacter pylori infection (if present), heal the ulcers, and prevent recurrence.

  • Surgical Treatment: In case of complications, such as perforation, bleeding, or duodenal stenosis, surgical intervention may be required:
  • Endoscopic Intervention: In some cases, bleeding can be stopped using endoscopy through cauterization of blood vessels or medication administration without the need for open surgery.

3.Surgical Operations:

  • Perforation of the Ulcer: In case of perforation (tear) of the ulcer, surgery is performed to close the hole or remove necrotic parts of the intestine.
  • Bypass Surgery: In cases of stenosis (narrowing) of the duodenum, where the passage of food is difficult, a surgeon can perform bypass surgery to create an alternate route for food through another part of the intestine.
  • Resection of the Intestine: In cases of significant duodenal damage, resection may be performed to remove the damaged part of the organ and reattach healthy parts.

4.Rehabilitation and Prevention:

  • Post-operative monitoring: careful observation of the patient after surgery to prevent complications.

5.Diet: patients are given dietary recommendations to reduce the load on the stomach and intestines.

  • Prescription of medications to prevent ulcer recurrence, such as drugs to lower acidity and maintain normal stomach function.
