Treatment of kidney stones 1

How does the treatment proceed?

Consultation and diagnosis:

  • Examination by a urologist.
  • Performing tests (general urine and blood tests).
  • Ultrasound, CT, or X-ray to determine the size and location of the stone.

Choosing the treatment method:

  • Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy — non-contact stone destruction with ultrasound.
  • Laser lithotripsy — an effective method for stone fragmentation through a thin endoscope.
  • Endoscopic surgeries — stone removal without large incisions.
  • Conservative therapy — medication to dissolve and expel stones.

Rehabilitation and prevention:

  • Doctor’s follow-up after the procedure.
  • Prescription of medications to prevent the recurrence of stone formation.
  • Correction of diet and drinking habits.

When should you see a doctor?

  • If you experience the following symptoms, do not delay a visit to the specialist:
  • Severe pain in the lower back or side that may radiate to the abdomen or groin.
  • Blood in the urine (red, pink, or brownish tint).
  • Painful or difficult urination.
  • Frequent urges to urinate, even when little urine is passed.
  • Nausea or vomiting accompanying pain.
  • High fever and chills, which may indicate an infection.
  • Change in the color or odor of urine.

Early treatment helps prevent complications!
