Adnexectomy and tubectomy at the Helios Surgery and Rehabilitation Center

Adnexectomy is a surgical operation to remove one or both of the uterine appendages, i.e. the ovaries and fallopian tubes. Tubectomy is the removal of one or both fallopian tubes. These operations may be necessary in the case of various pathological conditions, such as tumors, cysts, ectopic pregnancy, infections or chronic inflammations that affect the functioning of the reproductive system.

Indications for adnexectomy and tubectomy:

  • Ovarian tumors: If there is a suspicion of benign or malignant formations on the ovaries.
  • Ectopic pregnancy: When a pregnancy develops outside the uterus, which can lead to rupture of the tube.
  • Chronic inflammatory diseases: If infections in the uterine appendages are not treatable and cause pain, infertility or health threats.
  • Ovarian cysts: Large or painful cysts that cannot be cured by conservative methods.
  • Endometriosis: When endometrial tissue grows outside the uterus, disrupting the function of the appendages and causing pain.

Stages of adnexectomy and tubectomy at the Helios Center:

1.Consultation and diagnostics:

  • During the consultation, the doctor assesses the patient's general condition, conducts an examination and analyzes the results of examinations (ultrasound, CT, MRI, tests).
  • The treatment method and the need for surgery are determined.
  • The risks of surgery and possible consequences are discussed.

2.Preparation for surgery:

  • The necessary tests are prescribed to assess the general condition of the body.
  • Recommendations are given for preparing for surgery (diet, stopping taking certain medications).
  • The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia.

3.Surgery:

  • Laparoscopic adnexectomy or tubectomy: A minimally invasive method using special instruments and cameras to remove the affected areas.
  • Open surgery: In case of large tumors or serious complications, traditional surgery may be performed.
  • The surgery may involve removing one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes, depending on the indications.

4.Postoperative period:

  • The patient is hospitalized under the supervision of doctors to monitor recovery.
  • After laparoscopy, the recovery period is shorter, usually taking a few days.
  • In the case of open surgery, rehabilitation may take longer.
  • After surgery, it is important to follow the doctor's recommendations regarding physical activity and sexual life.
