Indications for ultrasound:

• Abdominal or chest pain.
• Chronic diseases of abdominal organs (liver, gallbladder, kidneys).
• Arrhythmias or suspected heart diseases.
• Assessment of joint conditions (arthritis, arthrosis).
• Urination disorders, kidney or bladder pain.
• Monitoring of vascular diseases, such as varicose veins or atherosclerosis.
• Preoperative assessment, post-surgical monitoring.

Types of ultrasound at "Heyios" center:

1. Abdominal organs ultrasound: liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, spleen.
2. Echocardiography (heart ultrasound): assessing heart structure and valve function, identifying anomalies and heart diseases.

How the ultrasound procedure is performed:

1. The patient lies on an examination table.
2. The doctor applies a special gel to the area being examined to improve the transmission of ultrasound waves.
3. Using a special sensor, the doctor moves it over the skin to conduct the examination.
4. During the procedure, the doctor may ask the patient to change positions for better organ visualization.
5. After the examination, the patient can immediately return to their normal activities.

Preparation for ultrasound:

1.Abdominal ultrasound (liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys):

• For more accurate results, it is recommended to fast before the procedure. The last meal should be no later than 8 hours before the exam. For 2-3 days before the exam, avoid consuming carbonated beverages, fatty, and heavy foods.

2.Echocardiography (heart ultrasound):

1. No special preparation is needed. The patient can eat and drink as usual.

3.Vascular ultrasound (abdominal, artery and vein Doppler for upper/lower limbs, head and neck):

• Avoid coffee, alcohol, and carbonated drinks a few hours before the exam. Generally, no special preparation is needed for extremity ultrasound.

4.Thyroid ultrasound, salivary gland ultrasound:

• No special preparation is needed, but it is important to inform the doctor of any medications being taken.

5.Pelvic ultrasound (women):

• For abdominal ultrasound (abdominal probe), drink about 1-1.5 liters of water 1-2 hours before the procedure and avoid urinating before the exam. For vaginal ultrasound (vaginal probe), no special preparation is required.

6.Male pelvic ultrasound:

• For prostate assessment with abdominal probe, drink about 1-1.5 liters of water a few hours before the procedure and avoid urinating.

7.Kidney, bladder ultrasound:

• Drink enough water 1-2 hours before the procedure and avoid urinating.

8.Breast ultrasound:

• It is better to perform the exam in the early stages of the menstrual cycle, as the breast tissue is more accessible for examination.

9.Scrotum ultrasound:

• No special preparation is needed.

10.Lung ultrasound (pleura for fluid):

• No special preparation is required.

11.Joint, musculoskeletal ultrasound:

• No special preparation is needed, but the patient may be asked to change positions during the exam.

12.Elastography (liver, thyroid, breast, soft tissues):

• Preparation depends on the specific organ. Typically, no special preparation is required, but for some exams, such as liver elastography, fasting is recommended.

13.Thyroid biopsy (without biopsy):

• No preparation is required, but the patient may be advised to stop taking certain medications a few days before the procedure.

14.Doppler ultrasound (head and neck vessels, abdominal aorta, upper/lower extremity arteries and veins):

• Avoid coffee and alcohol a few hours before the exam.

15.General recommendations:

• Consult with your doctor before any examination, especially if you are taking medications or have chronic conditions. To achieve the most accurate results, it is important to follow the preparation instructions provided by your doctor.
