When should you see a doctor?
Surgical treatment of prostate adenoma may be necessary in the following cases:
- Ineffectiveness of conservative treatment (medications do not help).
- Urinary problems that are difficult to control.
- Urinary retention or complete urinary retention.
- Frequent urinary tract infections.
- Blood in urine.
- Pain or discomfort during urination.
What surgical methods are used?
- Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) — this is the most common method for surgically treating prostate adenoma. The operation is performed through the urethra (urinary tract), without the need for incisions. The doctor uses a special instrument to remove part of the prostate tissue that prevents normal urine flow.
- Laser therapy — laser removal of prostate adenoma is a minimally invasive method. The laser allows for safer and more precise removal of the enlarged part of the prostate, reducing the risk of complications and shortening the recovery period.
- Open prostatectomy — this method is used in rare cases when other methods are ineffective or complications arise. The surgery involves removing part or all of the prostate through an incision in the lower abdomen.
- Transurethral incision of the prostate (TUIP) — this is an alternative method where the doctor makes several small incisions in the prostate tissue to ease the flow of urine.
