Laparoscopic Sterilization at the Helyos Surgery and Rehabilitation Center

Laparoscopic sterilization is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that provides permanent contraception by tying or removing part of the fallopian tubes, preventing the egg from reaching the uterus and being fertilized. This procedure is an effective option for women who have decided not to become pregnant in the future.

Indications for Laparoscopic Sterilization:

  • No desire to have children in the future: For women who are certain they do not want to have children.
  • Failure of other contraceptive methods: When other forms of contraception are not suitable or have proven ineffective.
  • Medical reasons: In cases of serious health conditions such as recurrent miscarriages or life-threatening risks associated with pregnancy.

Stages of Laparoscopic Sterilization at Helyos Center:

1. Consultation and Diagnosis:

  • The first step includes a consultation with a surgeon who evaluates the woman’s overall health and discusses the reasons for sterilization.
  • Necessary tests and examinations are performed (ultrasound, blood tests, and other diagnostics) to assess the condition of the reproductive system.
  • Risks, benefits, and anesthesia options are explained in detail.

2. Preparation for the Procedure:

  • The patient receives preoperative instructions (diet, discontinuation of certain medications, abstaining from sexual activity before the procedure).
  • The surgeon provides guidance on preparing for the postoperative period.

3. Sterilization Procedure:

  • Laparoscopic sterilization is typically performed under general anesthesia.
  • Small incisions are made in the abdominal area through which a laparoscope and surgical instruments are inserted.
  • The surgeon ties or removes a portion of the fallopian tubes, thereby preventing pregnancy.
  • The procedure takes approximately 30–60 minutes and is usually complication-free.

4. Postoperative Period:

  • Most patients can be discharged a few hours after surgery.
  • During the first week, it is recommended to avoid physical exertion and sexual activity.
  • Recovery is generally quick, with most women returning to their regular routine within 1–2 weeks.
