- Chest or abdominal pain/discomfort: Following the suspected ingestion of a foreign object.
- Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia): Problems with swallowing food or liquids.
- Risk of complications: If the foreign object may cause organ perforation or infection.
- Obstruction: Partial or complete blockage of the gastrointestinal tract.
What to Expect During the Consultation:
1.Medical history review: The doctor will ask detailed questions about the circumstances of the ingestion and the symptoms that followed.
2.Physical examination: Including palpation of the abdomen and an assessment of the patient’s general condition.
3.Diagnostic Examinations:
- X-ray: Helps locate the foreign object and determine its size and shape.
- Ultrasound: Used to detect objects that may not be visible on X-ray.
- Endoscopy: Gastroscopy or esophagoscopy allows for precise visualization of the object in the esophagus or stomach.
- Treatment Plan Discussion: The physician will explain possible methods of foreign body removal, which may include endoscopic or surgical intervention.
