What is a Breast Biopsy?

A breast biopsy is a diagnostic procedure in which a tissue sample is taken for microscopic examination. It is one of the most effective methods for detecting benign and malignant growths, allowing for an accurate diagnosis and determining the best course of treatment.

When is a breast biopsy recommended?

Presence of lumps or suspicious formations in the breast
Detected changes on mammography or ultrasound
Unusual nipple discharge
Suspicion of a malignant process

Biopsy Methods at Helуos

Our center uses advanced biopsy techniques that provide highly accurate results with minimal discomfort for the patient:

Fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) – used to collect cellular material.
Core needle biopsy (CNB) – allows for a larger tissue sample for a more detailed analysis.
Vacuum-assisted biopsy – a minimally invasive method that allows for the removal of larger tissue samples.
Surgical biopsy – performed in cases where other methods do not provide sufficient information.

How is the procedure performed?

Initial consultation with a mammologist and necessary examinations.

The collected sample is sent for histological examination.
